A tragic incident has thrown residents of Aba into shock after a yet-to-be-identified man reportedly fell to his death from the top of a moving commercial passenger train on Tuesday afternoon.
According to eyewitness accounts, the train was heading to Port Harcourt when the fatal accident occurred at about 3:00 p.m. The deceased, alongside several other passengers, was said to have been hanging on top of the train — a dangerous but reportedly common practice among some commuters attempting to avoid paying the appropriate fare.

How the Incident Happened
Sources at the scene revealed that the victim lost his balance while the train was in motion. He reportedly fell from the rooftop of the moving train and died instantly due to the impact.
Eyewitnesses described the moment as horrifying, stating that the man stood no chance of survival after hitting the rail track. Efforts to identify him as of Tuesday night proved unsuccessful.

Body Left on Rail Track
As gathered, the victim’s body remained on the rail track along Uratta Road, located behind Aba–Port Harcourt Road, several hours after the incident. The sight reportedly drew a crowd of onlookers and passersby, with many expressing concern over the increasing trend of risky train travel in the area.
Residents have called on relevant authorities to enforce stricter safety measures and discourage passengers from climbing onto train rooftops.
Rising Safety Concerns Over Train Travel
This tragic event has once again highlighted the dangers associated with unsafe boarding practices on commercial trains. Climbing onto the top of moving trains not only violates transportation safety regulations but also exposes passengers to life-threatening risks.
Authorities are yet to release an official statement regarding the incident as of press time.
